Way back in 1968, Lee “Scratch” Perry was one of the first musicians to use sampling (the sound of a crying baby) in his music, and after writing and producing music throughout the ‘70s for everyone from Bob Marley to Paul McCartney and the Clash, he cemented his rep as a legend of the Jamaican beat and the father of dub. This fascinating documentary, narrated by Benecio del Toro, traces Perry’s life through his youth in rural Jamaica and his more notorious years in Kingston, and it features some of the most amazing archival concert footage ever seen.
