Nine

Sure, the movie version of Nine kind of bombed, earning neither the financial returns nor critical accolades that the previous Rob Marshall-directed musical, Chicago, racked up. But that shouldn’t poison future adaptations of the 1982 Broadway production (which itself is loosely based on the Fellini film 8 1/2—a lot of layers at work here), such as this one from Fullerton’s Hunger Artists Theatre Company. While this production doesn’t have Fergie, it does have the original numbers that Marshall cut from last year’s motion picture, and stars Dan Wozniak, a Hunger Artists newbie, in the lead role of Guido. It’s a part originated by Raul Julia, and played in the past by Antonio Banderas and Daniel Day-Lewis—some pretty big (and handsome) shoes to fill.

Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sundays, 7 p.m. Starts: April 23. Continues through May 23, 2010
