Wendy Liebman

Stand-up comic Wendy Liebman had a great track record in the late '80s through '90s, fitting in perfectly with the Ladies of the Night Showtime specials that also included Ellen Degeneres, Rita Rudner, Paula Poundstone and Judy Tenuta—a solid up-and-comer at time when Joan Rivers was the only female name recognized by mainstream audiences. In 1997, Liebman even won the American Comedy Award for Female Stand-up Comedian of the Year, and then she left comedy to raise some kids. Fast forward to her recent, and rather painful stint on the lame-stream reality show, America’s Got Talent—only judges Howard Stern and Howie Mandel laughed, because Liebman’s comedy is old-school and family friendly, just like the gals she debuted with so long ago. And that’s not a bad thing. Leibman will never be considered edgy, because she’s not lewd or shocking, so she’ll just have to settle for being PG-13 clever. And if that’s the kind of comedy you miss, and we kinda do, Liebman delivers aces. So, give it a shot—there really are things funnier than tiny dick jokes.
