On February 7th, Superbowl Sunday, Huntington Beach will hold the 14th Annual Surf City USA Marathon. Starting on Friday the 5th, the event will include preliminary festivities and happenings. The run has been called “the largest oceanfront running event in the country.” The run itself includes several events–a full marathon, a half marathon and a 5K run. The 2-day exposition preceding the running events promises to make it a festive Superbowl weekend for sea-going folks in OC. People from all over the US and abroad will be in attendance.

Contestants will race past the HB pier, the Bolsa Chica Wetlands, and HB Central Park in their journey. The event qualifies runners for the world-famous Boston Marathon. The race will be lined with surfboards, and beer gardens will adorn the track.
The “Active Lifestyle Beach Expo” will provide spectators and participants with plenty to do before and during the events, including live performances by a host of bands like the Fabulous Nomads, Outer Wave, Rip Tides, Goofyfoots and more. Local surf culture, surf music and related paraphernalia will pervade the atmosphere of the area around the pier and PCH.
Saturday the 6th of February will include the 23rd Annual HB Longboard Crew Pier Paddle, in which 100 entrants paddle-race around the pier from the Southside to the Northside at 10am, a distance of 800 yards. Some runners will participate in both the marathon events and the Pier Paddle, an accomplishment for which they will receive a special award.
