Wax On, Wax Off: More Storms…

Wether you're on the North Shore of Oahu or right here in Orange County, this El Nino year has brought an abundance of stormy weather and swell to the Pacific Ocean.

Just weeks after the biggest storms of the year brought huge waves to our shores and dumped several feet of new snow on our mountains, more bad…err…good…weather has arrived. The small, mushy swell of the past few days is fading, and starting today, a W-NW combo swell should start to fill in. The waves are expected to peak on Sunday with fair conditions and head-high sets. As for the mountains, expect the rains to bring even more snow to local spots like Baldy, Big Bear and Mountain High.

This weekend's Surf City Marathon in Huntington Beach looks like it's going to suffer from cold, cloudy skies and rain. But as is the case with such events, runners and pier-paddlers will brave the unfavorable conditions. If you were planning on hanging at the beer gardens in your boardshorts, however, you might consider bundling up instead.
