Video Gaming's Most Awkward Moments

Every so often, there are awkward moments in video gaming that make us roll our eyes and wish that the earth would just swallow us whole. Whether it's from poor voice acting or awkward sexual scenes, these are uncomfortable moments that we would do anything to clear from our minds. Hopefully, time can help us forget.

The following is a list of the most awkward and uncomfortable moments in video gaming. Be warned though, there are plenty of spoilers!

10. Dante's Tragic Scene Turned Awkward (Devil May Cry)

“I should have saved you. I should have been the one to fill your dark soul with LIIIIIIIGHT!”

What was supposed to be a tragic scene is ruined by Dante's cheesy words and silly voice acting. To make matters more uncomfortable, his voice cracks when he yells out the word “light.” Luckily, the rest of the game involved slaying demons and less of Dante displaying his creepy Oedipus complex.

9. A Very Naked Introduction (Hybrid Heaven)

According to Hybrid Heaven's very naked and very uncomfortable introduction, Johnny Slater loves to hang out (excuse the pun) in the nude. He watches the news naked. He checks his answering machine naked. He showers naked. He even receives mission briefings naked. If you observe the introduction sequence carefully, the man giving him orders is clearly checking out his junk.

8. Otacon Admitting to His Dead Sister That He Was Seduced By His Mother (Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty)

(Jump to the 5:15 min mark to see the scene in question)

Otacon's life is pretty tragic. With his recently departed stepsister in his arms, he asks for her forgiveness and admits that he had a sexual relationship with her mother, which was partially responsible for his father's death. Awkward!

7. Taking a Load Off Between Fights (Ring King)

The NES version of Ring King created some controversy because the boxer's aides appear to be performing fellatio on them in between rounds. The developers, however, claim that they're supposed to be readjusting the foul cups in their trunks. Regardless of what's true, this created a very awkward moment during those childhood gaming nights.

6. Back Message Minigame (Final Fantasy X-2)

What's worse than someone watching you playing this awkward minigame in Final Fantasy X-2? Someone hearing you play it. Avoid any potential embarrassment and hit that mute button.

5. Raiden Doing Naked Cartwheels (Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty)

Raiden performs somersaults and cartwheels while naked at the end of Metal Gear Solid 2. Is there any other video game series that has made us feel uncomfortable as often as the Metal Gear series?

4. Candy Kong (Donkey Kong 64)

Candy Kong is a humanoid monkey in short shorts and a pink bra. Whether that's creepy or sexy is up to eyes of the beholder. However, there is little doubt that her seductive moves at the end of Donkey Kong 64 is anything but unsettling.

3. Date with Paz (Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker)

Protagonist Big Boss is 39 years old during the events of Peace Walker. After a certain point in the game, players have the ability to have him go on a “date” with the alleged 16 year old Paz Ortega Andrade. One of the possible outcomes of the date ends with the two of them making out in a cardboard box. Good thing that the game's fiction takes place in the 1974, or the fate of Big Boss would have much different.

2. Leliana's Song (Dragon Age: Origins)

Leliana's song is beautiful. Unfortunately, the song is used with the horrible looking graphics of Dragon Age: Origins, which ends up making the scene uncomfortable to watch. Here, Leliana looks like a marionette lip-syncing to an audio file. To make the scene a little more awkward, the party could possibly be soaked with blood when the scene triggers.

1. Sonic's Romance with Elise (Sonic the Hedgehog)

Sonic the Hedgehog games aren't too popular among long-time fans of the series lately. Instead of sticking to the gameplay mechanics that made the icon popular in the early 1990s, Sonic games are finding new ways to make the hedgehog mascot “edgier” and “cooler.” He now carries a sword, hangs out with dorky sidekicks, and turns into a werewolf.

However, none of these actions are nearly as the unsettling romance between Sonic (a blue hedgehog) Princess Elise (a human) in the 2006 Sonic the Hedgehog game. If players are brave enough to get past the cringe-worthy budding romance of the two, the game builds up to a kiss between the two of them. Without a doubt, this is the precise moment in which the Sonic the Hedgehog series fell apart, and is the most awkward moment in video gaming history.
