UPDATED: Young The Giant Announce National Tour, Make Cable News Debut

Two auspicious things have happened for the Irvine lads in the band formerly known as The Jakes. One of them involves Ted Turner.

The first you see below. Their unbelievably catchy single “Cough Syrup” caught the ears of someone at CNN, making it into a montage about soccer. We hear that's how the Beatles got their big break, too! Or something like that.

.

The second they announced via Twitter yesterday: The quintet has booked a national tour with the melodic math-rock act Minus the Bear. If their styles don't quite match, at least Young the Giant's likeable sound will fall on the ears of Bear's earnest, devoted fanbase, which has been building since the group got its start in 2001.

The dates are here. The two bands kick things off on April 15 in Detroit, Michigan (as opposed, unfortunately, to Detroit, Costa Mesa), but they'll work their way across the country to get to the Glasshouse in Pomona on May 21. We'll be there… how 'bout you?
Update, March 29: Los Angeles-based Everest will also join Young the Giant and Minus the Bear on the tour. Who's Everest? We got 'cher profile right here!
