Vurdien said the school took the assault very seriously and posted papers with details about the incident and safety tips around campus. They also contacted the school newspaper and emailed all faculty and staff to update them, he said.
The email and text message alerts, which Marquez said she thinks should have been used to alert students about he assault, are typically just used when something is “in the process” of happening, Vurdien said.
ORIGINAL POST, OCT. 27, 12:02 P.M.: Police are still looking for the man who sexually assaulted a female student near
Fullerton College's football field on a recent morning.
Around 8:45 a.m. on Oct. 12, the man walked up behind the student, grabbed her and then sexually assaulter her, said Sgt. Andrew Goodrich, a spokesman for the Fullerton Police Department. “I'm not going to get into detail about the sexual assault, for the victim's sake.”
Goodrich says the department is still actively investigating the case, adding that the woman didn't know the man who assaulted her.
Police are searching for the suspect, who is described as a Hispanic male, between 25 and 30, with a short buzz cut, a goatee and a mustache.
Fullerton College student Jessica Marquez, says she's especially concerned that the sexual assault happened during the day. “You're cautious when you're leaving at night, but during the day you don't think about it,” she says, adding that she's started carrying her pepper spray again.
And, Marquez wonders why campus safety officials haven't said anything about the sexaul assault. “They still haven't told us anything,” Marquez says, adding that she only heard about it because an instructor who teaches about human sexuality mentioned the assault during class. “Any student I've asked doesn't know about it.”
She's signed up for the school's alert system, which sends out text messages and emails to keep students up-to-date with the campus' goings on.”They tell us when there's gonna be a black out or an earthquake drill, but something like this should be put out there. People need to know.”
A call to the director of campus safety wasn't returned.
