[UPDATED] Dispatch from Huntington Beach: New Bruxie, New N'Awlins, and Funnel Cake!

Update April 9, 2013:

Bruxie released a revised opening date of Tuesday, April 23 at 8 a.m. The Bruxie Streetside window will open at 7 a.m. starting in early May.

Ritter's Steam Kettle Cooking will now open their Huntington Beach location at The Strand (180 5th Street, Suite 130) before Costa Mesa (Gateway Plaza – South Coast Metro).

Original post March 20, 2013:

We had the opportunity to witness a work in progress as Dean Simon gave a mini-tour of Bruxie's first beach location, the fifth in their rapidly growing empire. As with previous locations, Simon incorporated features patrons would appreciate such as restrooms and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. This time around, his newest design element pictured above is penned Bruxie Streetside, but we're dubbing it The Custard Window.

The window will normally be open before the rest of the dining room and offer coffee, breakfast sandwiches and, of course, that addictive Wisconsin custard. Water and treats will also be available outside for dogs. Other additions include their $4.95 kids menu and an expanded breakfast selection. Opening date is slated for April 16.

After we thought there was nothing else to report, we walked by two other storefronts advertising future eats. First up is Ritter's Steam Kettle Cooking. Scheduled to open around the corner from Bruxie, their menu is seafood-heavy and jammed with New Orleans-inspired cuisine, including red linguini with clams and etouffee. Before Huntington Beach opens in June, however, Costa Mesa patrons can test it out next month when they initially launch at 1421 West MacArthur Avenue.

Our other joint spotted was a dessert typically reserved for theme parks. The Funnel House plans on being two locations strong, with the original Long Beach locale created back in 2005. No specific date was mentioned for their 205 Main Street branch, but they did assure us of a springtime opening. We're looking forward to all the rich goodness these eateries have in store.
