When we interviewed Shirley Chung back in September, we were anxious to visit her modern Asian cuisine spot, TWENTY EIGHT. Jump a couple of months to yesterday, and it is finally opening in the former Kimera space.

The lunch crowd can look forward to signature dishes like whole roasted duck with secret sauce and a “good fortune” dessert consisting of dark chocolate mousse and curried glass candy. Chung's inspiration was, “reflective of my childhood years in Beijing, my past experiences and my travels.”
Chef Shirley has upped the restaurant ante in Irvine since appearing on Top Chef: New Orleans, paving the way for even more culturally diverse cuisines in a mostly chain-driven city. We wish her the best on TWENTY EIGHT, and look forward to testing the cocktail menu along with our meal.
