Sheila Schuller Coleman's announcement Sunday that she was stepping down as senior pastor from the Crystal Cathedral brought to a close a weekend in which her family appears to have severed ties with the iconic Garden Grove-based megachurch.
She made the announcement during Sunday services, a day after her father, Rev. Robert H. Schuller, and his wife, Arvella, reportedly resigned from the board over failed negotiations related to finances and intellectual copyright matters.

Schuller Coleman said she would be ministering at a new location, and a new ministry called Hope Center of Christ.
Robert and Arvella Schuller said in a statement that they support their daughter, but would not be moving with Schuller Coleman to the new location or worshipping at the Crystal Cathedral.
“How we will express ourselves in worship remains up in the air,” they said.
At www.hopercenteroc.org, Schuller Coleman says she will make the move with the choir, the worship team and the congregation, as well as her brother-in-law, Jim Penner, who recently got axed from his role as executive producer of the “Hour of Power”, the church's TV ministry.
She expects to make an announcement about the new location in a few days.
