TAPS Fish House and Brewery will finally be releasing their highly anticipated bourbon barrel-aged stout, Remy's Pappy, this Sunday, Feb 16. Just make sure you're lining up at the right place, because the bottles are being sold at El Cerrito Liquor & Market in Corona, not any of the TAPS locations.
Why's the beer so anticipated? Well, this bourbon barrel-aged stout isn't made with any old bourbon barrels. Oh no, these barrels held Pappy Van Winkle Bourbon for 23 years before TAPS filled them with their chocolate-y Imperial Russian.

While you maybe familiar with TAPS's former bourbon barrel stouts, Remy and Trace of Remy, those beers saw less than a year in their oaky quarters. Remy's Pappy, however, was aged for 15 months before brewmaster Victor Novak deemed the stout well-balanced and ready for consumption.
Last year, TAPS only had one barrel of their Trace of Remy. The bottles sold out in one hour. This year, there are six barrels of Remy's Pappy so maybe–just maybe–this batch will make it through the whole day at least.
This one-time release will not be sold at either TAPS locations and will only be available in 750ml bottles at El Cerrito Liquor & Market, in part because the El Cerrito bottle shop actually provided the barrels for the aging.
According to El Cerrito's owner, sales will be limited to between two and four bottles per customer depending on the crowd. Numbers will be passed out at 8:45 a.m. Sunday morning to avoid pesky line-cutting and sales are set to begin at 9 a,m. The bottles will go for $35.00 + tax.
If you can't make it to this special release, TAPS in Corona is sitting on 8 more barrels of Remy's Pappy but, unfortunately, you'll need to wait about another 3 to 6 months for the next round. Last year's Trace Remy scored a near perfect 99/100 on BeerAdvocate.com so, whether you're in line this weekend or later this year, it'll be worth the wait.
