The Five Must-See Shows in OC This Weekend

Don't forget to check out our constantly updated OC Concert Calendar
Friday, July 26th

Weezer
Pacific Amphitheater
Although Weezer's image and reputation has faded over the years with albums Raditude, Hurley, and Death to False Metal seriously lacking in what Weezer is known for, most Weezer fans are die hard enough to stick with them anyway. With the bands first self-titled release also called the Blue Album, Weezer took over the radio with fuzzy punk songs that you and your mom can both sing along too. Between hits “Buddy Holly,” “Say It Ain't So,” “Undone (The Sweater Song),” and “Holiday” all coming off the same debut release the band could do no wrong. Throw in the cult like appreciation for the album Pinkerton and many more hits following that album, and you see why this is a band that's just too loveable to hate.

Modest Mouse
The US Open of Surfing
With last years headliners Best Coast, and the year before having Weezer, it's hard to say if this is the biggest US Open yet, but it's definitely the best free concert this year. Even if parking is a nightmare and there isn't a square foot of sand to lie down in for a mile in each direction of the pier, at least on Friday it's worth going to Huntington
Beach to catch this event. Grammy Nominated musicians standing out in the sun and playing to a crowd with the backdrop being the ocean, I'm not sure if this happens anywhere else in the world than in Orange County. With front man Isaac Brock sure to be playing the bands biggest hit like “Float On”, he will hopefully pull out a few older songs for the monstrous crowd to enjoy.

Saturday, July 27th

John Mayer
Verizon Amphitheater
Whether he's spreading dirt about his celebrity ex-girlfriends Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Aniston, or Taylor Swift, or he's doing features for hip-hop stars like Kanye West or Odd Future member Frank Ocean, John Mayer is making a name for himself. Graduate from Berkley College of Music, Mayer definitely has the chops in guitar playing to back up everything he's done, however it took him more than just music to become the pop-culture star he is today. With his new album Paradise Valley to be released this year, everyone's anticipating to see what Mayer will do next.

Save Ferris
Pacific Amphitheater
This supposed “reunion” of one of Orange County's most loved Ska acts is actually causing the bands frontman Monique Powell to go through a lawsuit from former members of the band who are not involved in the “reunion.” Why? Because the “reunion” Powell is claiming consists of her on stage playing the bands songs with the accompaniment of new members. It appears that Powell announced the show hoping the band would join her to play, except when they were shocked by the announcement they replied with official statements and a lawsuit. Even though you won't be seeing the full band, it will be interesting to find out how this show at the OC fair's Pacific Amphitheatre will turn out on Saturday.

Viva Pomona
The Glass House
In Orange County's landscape of garage bands and DIY music culture labels like Burger Records or Lollipop Records and venues like Pomona's VLHS, the Glasshouse, and Aladdin Jr. mean something to a lot of people. In celebration of all the bands, labels, promoters, and fans the Viva Pomona event is doing it's second yearly show, and has grown immensely. With acts from all over Southern California that are actively participating in the local community the show is going to be an stacked lineup of over 20 acts. Headlining we have the Allah-Lahs, Milk Music, and The Lovely Bad Things. Your 14-dollar ticket will get you into three stages to see some of the best music Southern California has to offer.
