The Five Best Songs on Mitt Romney's Campaign Playlist

It's Election Day and that means not only will millions of Americans be making their way to voting booths in order to participate in our great democracy, but chances are they'll first have to work through that dreaded pre-election anxiety as the fateful hour draws closer. What better way to pass the time and get in that election day mood than by jamming to your candidate's Presidential Playlist?

Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney grew up around politics. Having participated in both of his parents' campaigns and regularly running for major political offices since 1994, he should have a good idea as to what makes for a selection of strong campaign music. Even though recent supporter Meat Loaf is nowhere to be heard, Romney's playlist is reflective of the spirit he wants to drum up in his audience.

Soggy Bottom Boys – “I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow” 2000

Starting things off, we have a hundred-year-old traditional American folk song performed by a fictional band. While it's one of the most memorable and beloved soundtrack cuts of the past 15 years, the O Brother, Where Art Thou? centerpiece perhaps shows Romney's appreciation for deep tradition and George Clooney(which is double strange considering he's a huge Obama supporter)

Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons – “December, 1963 (Oh What A Night)” 1975

Also giving us a glance to the past is Romney's choice of “December, 1963 (Oh What A Night.)” As great as it always is to hear this nostalgia-fueled synth-powered jam, some of us were hoping that Romney would have chosen Cam'Ron's remix instead.

The Killers – “Somebody Told Me” 2004

There are only two artists who make multiple appearances on Romney's playlist. One, not surprisingly, is Roy Orbison, who Romney has frequently stated his admiration for. Much more shockingly is the inclusion of two songs from The Killers. We don't quite know what to make of this particular song as part of the playlist, but we do hope Romney would agree it's only fair that if The Killers' albums are to be carried by major department stores, artists such as Ghostface Killah and Killer Mike should be as well.

Kid Rock – “Born Free” 2010

One of Romney's biggest supporters has been Detroit bad boy Kid Rock. While we would have appreciated a ballsier selection from Rock's catalog like “Bawitdaba,” “American Bad Ass” or “Wax That Booty,” “Born Free” at least gives us hope that we'll someday get to see Romney rocking a red fedora hat and sunglasses.

Carrie Underwood- “All American Girl” 2007

Closing out Romney's playlist is Carrie Underwood's “All American Girl.” A number one country hit, this is another case of us not being sure exactly what this song has to do with Romney's campaign. Is it a big slice of Americana? Is it the music video's cutaway to the girl as a Presidential hopeful? Is it the message of letting a surprise become the most important thing in your life? Was Carrie Underwood's name listed in one of Romney's “binders of women”? Even if its selection was just for being a personal favorite, it's one way to leave listening voters with a smile.
