The Five Best EDM Shows in OC This Month

Just when you thought festival season was over and the surge of electronic dance music events had come to a halt, 2013 has kicked off into high gear with sick shows every week. We already know holidays are big for EDM DJs to ensure a gig, but what about during off months like in January? Well let's just say that dance music fans love to party because the amount of shows in OC from now until Winter Music Conference is only growing right here in our own backyard. We broke down a list of the five best EDM shows this month to keep you up to date on all of the bacchanals worth buying tickets for.

5. NERVO
The Yost Theater
Sunday January 20th

Coming from playing at this years OMFG! NYE day one, LED is bringing the twins back to the Yost Theater in Santa Ana for a night of progressive house and electro beats. Mim and Liv Nervo have proven to be a part of the LED pedigree's who thrown down a sick party with hard hitting dance music that's sure to include their latest hits with famous DJ selectors like their collaboration with Nicky Romero titled “Like Home.” Known for their fashionista ways and good looks, the Australian songwriters, producers and DJ's have experienced an unprecedented profile boost being the new COVERGIRL models and only females to break the infamous DJ Mag Top 100 list. If their radio show on Sirius XM NERVOnation is any inclination of what their show will be like, expect a fun eclectic mix of their own originals with today's EDM hits.

4. Justin Martin & Christian Martin
The Yost Theater
Thursday January 17th

White Rabbit's Havoc Thursdays is bringing the Dirtybird label party to OC this Thursday with none other than Justin Martin and his brother Christian Martin. This party has been bringing smiles to the dance-floor for almost a decade in San Francisco and now all over the world. Coming straight off the Holy Ship shenanigans and then Playa Del Carmen for The BPM Festival, Martin is going to bring his infamous bass-lines and signature house sound to our own local watering hole. With support from our local Focus DJs–OC's longest running house club–you can expect nothing but good vibes and wicked groovy tunes. With booty clap remixes and one of the best albums of 2012, Ghettos & Gardens, Justin Martin and the rest of the Dirtybird record label is going to educate the OC crowd on what real San Francisco house music is like.

3. Shiny Toy Guns DJ Set & Drop The Lime
Detroit Bar
Thursday January 17th

Every now and then Detroit Bar books an outstanding EDM act and this Thursday is one to mark on your calendars. Catering to the more hipster crowd the Shiny Toy Gun's Jeremy Dawson will be doing a DJ set alongside Carah Faye with live vocals. They are best known for their hit song “Le Disko” which blended electronic elements with the alternative band. Their latest album III received rave reviews as miss Faye is remains the kick ass face of the band. A DJ set with her sexy live vocals should be a treat. Not to mention an opening set from Drop The Lime (that is enough to make us want to go). The Brooklyn native Luca Venezia is bringing his drum & bass influences to the world of electronica with his latest release on Ultra Records Enter The Night. This evening is sure to bring you back to the days when rock bands played wicked electronic synths with a modern twist.

2. Madeon
Ten Nightclub
Sunday January 20th

The french 18-year-old born Hugo Pierre Leclercq has become somewhat of an overnight sensation since his YouTube video “Pop Culture” went viral in the summer of 2011. Better known by his stage name, Madeon things are happening fast for the young songwriter, producer, musician and DJ. He is currently on tour with Lady Gaga on the “Born This Way Ball.” A dream of his after he tweeted her how much he loves her music. Having played every major festival in the United States he is now bringing his take on electro house and french house to the masses. On Sunday he is making his way to Ten Nightclub straight from his gig at the Staple's Center thanks to Insomniac Events and Identity Management Group. The young artist has Skrillex like notoriety in his future, so make sure you see him in this rare intimate setting before he starts headlining his own live tour (he already has one in Europe).

1. Crookers
The Observatory
Friday January 25th

After almost a decade together, Bot announced he was leaving Crookers in October of 2012. Since then Francesco “Phra” Barbaglia has carried on the Crookers name as a solo project and is bringing his take on electronic dance music to the Observatory in Santa Ana on Friday January 25th. Thanks to Insomniac Events and INTOTHEAM the Italian electro house artist is coming straight of the madness on the Holy Ship and is sure to bring that same kind of energy with his unique different styles and medley of genres, sounds and instruments to OC . Known for having lots of high-profile friends, “Phra” puts the thug in EDM and has proven he can make everyone party their asses off and get crazy on the dance floor. INTOTHEAM's own SLDGHMR is opening the show with some more electro and nu disco that's sure to get all the hipsters shaking their tail feathers for what we think will be the best EDM party of the month.
