Though not quite as controversial as the book it was based on, Stanley Kubrick's Lolita finally gave middle-aged perverts a movie to which they could relate. Professor Humbert Humbert (James Mason) becomes romantically infatuated with 14-year-old Lolita (Sue Lyon), the daughter of his landlady (whom he eventually marries in an attempt to remain close to the girl). Does Humbert get what he really wants in the end? Well, we'd hate to spoil it for you . . . but suffice it to say, pedophilia is still waiting for its cinematic champion.
