Teemu Selanne to Open Steakhouse in Laguna Beach!

This post covers so many categories, where do we begin?

Trends come and go, but this one sucks. Back in April, we unexpectedly said goodbye to James Harris and Royal Hawaiian. Jump to last week, when The Cottage was informed of a land sale they had no knowledge of. Another blow to the beach community was confirmed yesterday as French 75 abruptly closed over the weekend.

Links to French 75 lead to a management message detailing the changes. When we read what who was taking over, we nearly feel off our chair.

Expected to open April 1st of next year, Teemu Tavern & Grill will be a casual steakhouse. If you follow what's left of hockey, you'll recognize fan favorite Teemu Selanne from the Anaheim Ducks. Thisclose to retirement, he's apparently planning for his future while NHL is nonexistent this season.

The closure of French 75 leaves Savannah Chop House as the sole survivor of David Wilhelm's former Culinary Adventures empire. Wilhelm filed for Culinary bankruptcy back in 2008, leaving executive and co-founder John Martin in charge of the remaining eateries.

While not meant to bring this post full circle, we're reminded that James Harris previously worked as sous chef at another eatery prior to Royal Hawaiian: French 75. Something tells us this isn't an April Fools' prank.
