What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?
This over-the-top melodrama about an aging pair of sisters stands as a camp classic. Bette Davis plays past-her-prime ex-child star Baby Jane Hudson, forced to care for her invalid ex-celebrity sister Blance Hudson. Locked away in their creepy house, the buried psychological tensions between the two simmer to the surface, leading to a powerhouse conclusion. Boyz N the Hood
When 23-year-old John Singleton released his debut film, Boyz N the Hood, in 1991, it immediately became a critical and audience favorite for its colorful depiction of life in South-Central Los Angeles. Coming out a year before the LA riots, the film begged for some peace and sanity in a community seemingly abandoned by civic authorities. Featuring a witty and sensitive script by Singleton and some terrific lead performances by Ice Cube, Laurence Fishburne and Cuba Gooding Jr., Boyz N the Hood remains a classic of inner-city cinema.
