Shawn and Marlon Wayans Play a Game of Musical Word Association

We all know Shawn and Marlon Wayans from their various roles in, White Girls, Scary Movie, Dance Flick, and the best movie of all time, Don't be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood. But real talk, the list goes on and on and one has time for all of that. Since these guys stay busy (Marlon co-wrote and stars in the upcoming movie “A Haunted House” and Shawn is penning his own flick and putting together a stand-up special), we decided to skip the usual “foreplay” regarding their upcoming run at the Irvine Improv (Sept. 27th-30th) and do a little “word play” with them. So the game goes like this, we name a song and artist and they tell us the first thing that comes to mind. And FYI, we're going old school with this one. Sounds like fun right? OK…here we go.

OC Weekly (Ali Lerman): What's the first thing that comes to mind when you hear “Wanna Be Startin' Somethin” by Michael Jackson?

Marlon: My family, my sister wanting to go the Victory Tour concert. Nobody in the house has money to get a ticket but somehow she went. When she came home she kept jabbing her head and pointing her head saying, “Can you feel it? Can you feel it? Can you feeeeel it?” Me being a kid, I couldn't understand what he was saying because Michael would be getting into it!

Shawn: She wanted to be giving him something, I remember that!

Marlon: Hell, I would've given him somethin'.

Shawn: I wouldn't have given him somethin' but I would've talked my sister into giving him somethin'! He would've done it to Marlon in one of those little red Thriller jackets. [Laughs.]

Marlon: Naw, I would have given him something and been like, “So what?” I would have come to one of his shows and sat on his lap like Webster. I would have choked Bubbles out and cracked Brooke Shields in her teeth and been like, “No I'm going with him!”

OCW: Wow, it was sweet love at first but it got violent really fast. Let's switch it up, what about the song “Party All the Time” by Eddie Murphy?

Marlon: That was my song! At first we thought it was going to be funny and then we heard the song and were like, this is actually pretty funky! That song really caught on and then before you know it, we were singing his other song “How Could it Be?”

Shawn: I love that song! All I could think about was how talented he is. It's like, man this dude is funny and he can sing? Eddie is just the ultimate entertainer. I want to see another stand-up special from him.

Marlon: With those hot leather pants he better be able to sing! I wanna see a live concert with him singing. I wanna see him rapping!

OCW: Speaking of rap, what about “Just a Friend” by Biz Markie?

Marlon: The inside of a monkey's cage.

Shawn: You know what word comes to mind? Retarded. That is what he looks like when he sings that song.

Marlon: Actually, it first reminds me of when I started finger popping.

OCW: I'm sorry, did you say finger popping? That sounds like more than just a friend…

Marlon: Yeah. [Laughs] That's what I'd be singing when I was finger popping.

OCW:

Wowww OK last one, what about “All of the Things (Your Man Won't Do)” by Joe?

Shawn: All I can think of is my ex-girlfriend cheating on me.

Marlon: All Joe songs are about loving or cheating.

Shawn: Yep. it's about him boning somebody's girl.

OCW: That's weird…it makes me think of sucking toes with hot sauce…

Marlon: From Don't be a Menace? Wow, that is hilarious! You really love that movie.

Shawn: That is your movie! I like that.

OCW: I happen to live for that movie. I'd build a shrine to it if I wasn't an adult.

Marlon: You should build a shrine. When I see you in Irvine I'll dress in my Loc Dog make-up and let you take an ass naked picture of me with that hairdo and my bunny slippers.

OCW: Pretty please! Thanks for playing along with us. So what can Irvine expect from you guys this visit? Any showing of your ass again Marlon?

Marlon: Probably. I'll show mine again in a different way. I like to keep my female fans happy. Evidently we'll do anything for a laugh if I pulled my ass out last time. I'll go full frontal this time.

Shawn: He'll only do it if you sit in the front row.

OCW: Won't it hit me if I'm the back row?

Marlon: It probably will.

Shawn: It can. It'll block up traffic all down the 5 Fwy. Really, check us out in Irvine and come have a good time with us!
