The JoAnne Artman Gallery once again reminds us why it’s the premiere beachside venue for new and fascinating figurative work with “Seeking Future,” a solo exhibition by international artist Rimi Yang. Yang’s work straddles genres and eras, taking echoes of Old Master’s females and flipping them into contemporary abstractions imbued with multi-cultural verve by melding images of the East and West so seamlessly that it’s never quite clear which is the dominate. In addition, her complex layers of texture and a patchwork brushstroke that is equal parts unnerving and inviting, create movement and sensation in even the most tranquil of still lifes.
Wednesdays-Saturdays, 11 a.m. Starts: May 3. Continues through May 15, 2013
