See You At The Liquid Aloha Fest! Lee Koch Wants To Go Tanning With George Hamilton

To celebrate the 14th anniversary of OC Weekly's
annual summer guide, we're co-hosting a party with the Kona Brewing Co.
at The Strand, 500 Pacific Coast Highway, Huntington Beach on Saturday,
3 to 8 p.m. It's all ages, and free–so you have no excuse to miss it!
There'll be a Kona Beer Garden, after which Danny Maika plays at a 21+
party at Shorebreak Hotel.

We're also letting you preview most of the artists on the lineup; Lee Kochs Q&A is second in the Liquid Aloha Fest
Q&A series.

Ventura vocalist/guitarist Lee Koch reaches into the American folk past for inspiration. Koch's sound features mournful guitars, wailing harmonicas and bluesy rhythms. Whether your seeing him solo or with the Grinders (Singer/guitarist Koch, drummer Ira Miller and bassist Andrew Flores), you'll be served up some old school rock & roll. His album, Same As Blood was released in 2009 and has a warm, loose feel reminiscent of the Band and the Byrds. His sunny vibe is summed up neatly in the lyrics to his song, “Free For Misery.” (“Don't look back, head to the Ocean/Feel that breeze, feel it with my soul”).

OC Weekly (Danielle Bacher): When was the first time you got lei'ed?

Lee Koch: I've never been lei'ed.
What song do you have that's a soundtrack to summer?
If you like to boogie, listen to “Free From Misery.” It's a good summer tune.

Do you like pineapple on pizza: yes or no?
Pineapple fo sho!

Which band member looks best in a bikini?
Andrew (our bass player) can sport a bikini like no one I've seen. Watch out Kim Kardashian!

What's your favorite band to listen to on the beach?
The best band to jam on the beach is Slayer…for the kids.

Who is a better tanning buddy: George Hamilton or David Hasselhoff?
I think we would all rather tan with a star from The Godfather, Pt. III than to a German heart throb.

How does the band like to cool off?
We prefer to squeeze into an inflatable kid's pool and sip mojitos. We like to keep things friendly.
