Barely 24 hours have passed since the Orange diocese's press conference, and already Bishop Tod D. Brown's spinmasters are trying to make His Excellency better than he is. On the diocesan website is a story titled “BISHOP OF ORANGE APOLOGIZES TO YOUNG WOMEN,” in which the following is revealed: Most Rev. Tod D. Brown, the …
Ulrich Schnauss, pimping his Ride. Based on the disappointing Goodbye album, I had little hope that German laptop/shoegaze practitioner Ulrich Schnauss' live show would impress me. So I'm happy to report that Uli far exceeded my expectations. Performing solo in front of scintillating nature footage and vividly piquant abstract and figurative imagery, Schnauss generated a …

Scroll down for updates as they come… Just received word that the Catholic Diocese of Orange just settled a civil suit filed against it and former Mater Dei High School boys' basketball coach Jeff Andrade. Strange, considering diocesan lawyers were publicly proclaiming they were raring to start the trial. And isn't it convenient that they …

Google is great, really: a couple of random searches, and voila! You have a media critique. At least that's how Dave Pierre, author of The Media Report and a contributor to NewsBusters, operates with my recent LA Times opinion piece bashing Catholic Diocese of Orange Bishop Tod D. Brown. Under the headline, “Facts, Fairness Out …

Supporters of Monsignor John Urell, the former chancellor for the Catholic Diocese of Orange who is currently in some Canadian psychological treatment center to treat his anxiety after failing to finish a deposition, argue that their man is being unfairly hounded by lawyers and the press, that his testimony has no bearing on the Jeff …

For decades, the Catholic Diocese of Orange has dealt with survivors of its pedo-priests in secrecy–sealed settlements, claimed ignorance, and always, always, away from a jury. In none of the civil settlements that the Orange diocese signed off on were there any admission of guilt by the priest or diocesan lay employee charged with molestation. …

His notes on the event: “Last night was pretty cool. Total access for the entire stadium! It was like a boyhood dream, but I was disappointed that the team was …

Radiohead drink to a (potentially) new record-industry paradigm. As everyone with an Internet connection knows by now, Radiohead will release the follow-up to 2003's Hail to the Thief, titled In Rainbows, on Oct. 10. In a crushing blow for music journalists everywhere, no advances will be supplied; we wretched scribes will have to wait until …

Bear with us, gentle readers–this is a long post… Though the Weekly anointed Orange Juice as the county's best blog, even the Juicers would admit that the king of the county blogosphere is OC Blog, started and administrated by Jubal, the nom de plume of political consultant and longtime local Republican activist Matt Cunningham. Its …

Peter Callahan, longtime attorney for the Catholic Diocese of Orange. Today, the Orange County Register plays catchup to the Los Angeles Times and interviews Scott Hicks, who claims Bishop Tod D. Brown abused him decades ago. Again, no mention of the fact that the Weekly broke this story six months ago. But we're straying from …
