The Henry Rollins Show
IFC
7 tonight

I've only seen parts—very, very shorts parts—of this program since it switched from having Rollins and his neck pontificate about film (?!) to having Rollins and his neck pontificate about everything before trotting out the musical guest. By the way, I've referred to Rollins as Rollins and his neck ever since reading that in a Washburn column in the Weekly many, many years ago. I don't believe I've ever thanked Jim or acknowledged the blatant rip-off before, so Jim, if you're reading, thank you very much and sorry for blatantly ripping you off. But in the words of those great blatant rip-off artists, Led Zeppelin, blatantly ripping off is the sincerest form of flattery. I don't think Led Zeppelin is going to be on Rollins' latest show (I will go out on a limb and say I KNOW their drummer won't), and Zep did not appear in the Penelope Spheeris' excellent documentary on 1980 punk rock in Los Angeles, The Decline of Western Civilization, which included Rollins' old band Black Flag—before Rollins was in Black Flag. But you know who was in X during the filming of The Decline of Western Civilization? John Doe. And do you know who will be the musical guest of Rollins and his neck tonight? John Doe. And do you know who Henry and his neck are going to have their way with in the interview chair? Penelope Spheeris. That's why I'll be watching the whole show this time. Repeats 7 p.m. June 1 and 7 N 10 p.m. June 3.
