Say what you will about the Puritans, but one thing they got right was their stance on animal welfare. Including an abundance of ordinances on that theme into the 1654 Protectorate of England, the stuffy shirts opposed all animal bloodsports, including dog fighting, and believed that man’s Biblical dominion over animals meant responsible stewardship, rather than ownership. Fast forward 360 years, and we’re just beginning to realize, on a grand scale, how right they really were. Part of that responsibility, besides being lucky enough to have a pet to brighten up your life, is to ensure that all of the animals who’ve been neglected, dumped, born in the wild, or that are in need of care, receive the nurturing and medical attention they deserve. (Snacky little treats are also good.) So, come on down and do your part at this multi-faceted event, whether it’s adopt, race to raise funds, or purchase items for sale and at auction. Every kitteh and pup could use a bit of your love, in whatever form you can offer it, and, hey, when’s the last time you acted like a Puritan? Sounds oddly sexy somehow…
