Plan 9 From Outer Space

Yes, yes—it was the worst movie ever made, according to Rush Limbaugh's pal, movie critic Michael Medved (so there’s that), but writer/director/producer Ed Wood really did intend for his 1959 schlocker to make humanity rethink nuking the planet. While his hopes that aliens would descend and resurrect our dead to distract us from building a doomsday device didn’t thrill audiences—even though in reality, that would have totally made us take our eye off the atomic ball—he did have Vampira, Bela Lugosi, and that psychic phony, Criswell (who predicted Mae West would one day be president). See them all once again in the Maverick’s screwy spoof of Wood’s hackneyed American horror story and rediscover one of the most charming pieces of culty junk ever scripted.
