Pink Flamingos

Pride Festivals have had much to celebrate since SCOTUS declared marriage-for-all, and Saturday, OC Pride unleashes its own rainbow flag frenzy. Tonight, Frida Cinema presents John Waters’ Pink Flamingos, an infamous counter-culture explosion of celluloid that exemplifies the ferocity some gay artists chose during the 1970s instead of self-loathing and closet-hiding. Starring the iconic Divine, Mink Stole and Edith Massey, Flamingos is one of the most disgusting and perversely hilarious indies ever made, featuring tunes from Little Richard and LaVern Baker as ironic backdrop for black market baby-selling, kiddie heroin dealing and cannibalism while vicious deviants vie for the coveted title of “filthiest person alive.” Definitely not for the squeamish – or those who prefer their gays colored in The Birdcage stereotypes. Don’t forget your barf bag.
