On the Line: Alexandra LittleJohn of Green Bliss/Cafecito Organico, Part Two

On the Line ladies are too few and far between, so spending time with Alexandra was a treat. A musically inclined orator with a depth of knowledge in Native American history, she also kicks back domino hustling or hiking some unique LA trails.

And now, on to Part Two . . . .

When you're not behind an espresso machine, what are you doing?
Reading, brewing, learning or researching about coffee, or visiting other shops. When I have free time, I love to play pinochle or dominoes (both very math-intensive games) with my friends.

Last song playing on your radio/smart phone/iPod:
Journey Radio on Pandora, and Someday Never Comes by Billy Valentine and the Forest Rangers.

Where did you grow up?
I grew up half here and half in Western North Carolina. I moved back to
SoCal about four years ago after my divorce. I always seem to end up in
Costa Mesa. It's just home now.

If you could be a character on Entourage or Sex and the City, who would you be? [Editor's Note: Yes, we read their Facebook profiles, too.]
Are you kidding? Samantha – hands down.

Hardest lesson you've learned:
That not everyone has my best interest at heart.

What's your favorite childhood memory?
Going to Hawaii for vacations with all of my siblings and my mother, who passed away in 1995. We were on Maui, the big island and Oahu.

Favorite Halloween costume:
Last year I went as a (Coffeesaurus) dinosaur. My friend made the costume for $15. She bought a hunter green sweatsuit, then covered foam with yellow felt and nailed it down the back. It resembled a Triceratops, and it was awesome. My nieces and nephews love it.

Are you superstitious?
About leaving my purse on the ground; they say it makes your money low. It's an old Southern thing I learned from my aunties.

What were you up to five years ago?
Getting divorced and traveling the country. Trying to find out what's next.

Favorite holiday:
I love Thanksgiving: cooking with friends or staying in Vegas. That's usually my plan that time of year.

Where do you like to hike?
I used to love walking the AT (Appalachian Train in NC). But now, there's not much around here, so I do the hidden staircases walks in LA. They're amazing.

Last concert attended or last movie watched:
Last concert was the Avett Brothers, my favorite band. Amazing. Movie was the Avengers on opening night. I fell asleep, which means I had to see it again at a 7 p.m. show. That's how I know I was becoming a grown up.

When you use the internet, what's on your homepage?
All day, every day….Sprudge.com. Coffee news and frothy gossip!

Last thing you looked up/searched online:
Brewmethods.com – the Verve Chemex video to Biggie Smalls is hilarious!

Do you have any skills that are non-food related?
Yes, I love public speaking, and have done storytelling in the past. I also play the Native American flute; a lot of my uncles are flute makers.

What would you be doing if you weren't in this business?
Crying all the time. No, I'd probably go back to teaching Native American History, Cultural Studies, or Sociology.
