OC Grub Guide 7/4-7/10: Huskey, Habana and Hendrix

Happy holiday week! Since you’ve probably got plans for the 4th, we’re focusing on the weekend and week ahead. Warning: This week in particular is an anti-diet Grub Guide. Do plan accordingly.

Oh, there’s other food besides dessert? Photo by Anne Marie Panoringan.

Get Your Summer Picnic On At Habana – Irvine

Over a dozen salads/sides, a carving station and berry-licious desserts await those who make it out to the Irvine Spectrum outpost of Habana. Served from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. weekdays, this $22 summertime special is very much worth the cost. In fact, our meal was so comprehensive, we nicknamed it “brunch lite” (minus the eggs and pastries). But beware of indulging too much, as evidenced by the weary groans of our lunch mates. We blame the crispy yucca, ripe plantains and addictive rice. 708 Spectrum Center Dr., (949) 419-0100; www.restauranthabana.com.

58 is great!

58 Years of Der Wienerschnitzel – all locations

To celebrate 58 years in operation, the hot dog chain is giving folks the deal of the year. Original Chili Dogs and Mustard Dogs will be the low, low price of 58-cents on Tuesday, July 9th, between the hours of 11 a.m. and 8 p.m.. Technically, you can chow down for lunch and dinner; just know there’s a 10 dog limit. Celebrate National Hot Dog month the old-fashioned way. www.wienerschnitzel.com.

Hendrix Wine Dinner with Buena Vista Winery – Laguna Niguel

When you’re feeling the blues from ending a holiday week, turn to Hendrix for a pick-me-up. On Monday, July 8, they’re serving a three-course, chef curated dinner with paired pours from Buena Vista. We’re down with anything Chef Rainer’s got on the menu. The tray-passed tastes begin at 6 p.m. 32431 Golden Lantern, (949) 248-1912; www.hendrixoc.com

Winner Winner, Crack Shack Dinner! – Costa Mesa

National Fried Chicken Day is this Saturday. We kid you not. If you decide to participate in this greasy holiday, why not make it a Crack Shack kind of day? They’re hiding gold and yellow eggs in their five and 10 piece chicken meals. Yellow (or silver) gets you a cookie. Gold, however, scores you a catered meal for 15 of your favorite people. We call dibs on extra biscuits! 196 E. 17th St. (949) 383-5040; www.crackshack.com.

Tackle Box & Davio’s Collaboration – Irvine

Book a reservation for Friday the 12th, as Tackle Box’s Brian Huskey teams up with Davio’s Chef Istvan Toth for a divine dinner starting at 5 p.m.. We’re talking seared yellowfin tuna, grilled summer peaches with burrata and grilled ribeye cap– and that’s only three of the five courses. Did we already mention the optional wine pairings? 18420 Von Karman Ave., (949) 477-4810; www.davios.com/irvine

  1. There are so many cruelty-free restaurants in OC now, and they offer the same stuff you cover here, just the cruelty-free plant based versions. Would you include a few for the growing number of vegans that would like to not get entirely grossed out by the restaurants on these posts?

  2. Wow, wonderful weblog format! How lengthy have you ever been running a blog for?

you made running a blog glance easy. The
overall look of your website is fantastic, let alone the content!

  3. Hmm it looks like your blog ate my first comment (it was extremely long)
so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I wrote and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog.

I too am an aspiring blog writer but I’m still new to everything.
Do you have any tips for newbie blog writers? I’d certainly appreciate
