Now Open: Grits Fullerton

Brunch is a phrase not taken lightly around here. Eggs, pork products and pastries are some of the tastiest things. So to hear that Grits Fullerton is actually opening is news (at least to this Forker).

Promoting themselves as “classic Southern comfort food with California creativity”, they kicked things off with a bit of charity work. A different organization was featured daily last week, with 100% of food profits going directly to the lucky non-profit.

While you can always order some bacon 'n eggs or biscuits with gravy (categorized under “Boring”), we suggest exploring a few other options. Check out a delicate, five egg French omelet or some namesake grub– their roasted pepper grits (pictured) are very nacho cheesy! A standard biscuit appears densely packed, but soft and pliable once you split it open. They're even better when you smother one with bone marrow.

A sweet/savory combination we indulged in was a pork belly taster plate paired with their brunch-style pancake balls. Playfully served with hazelnut ganache, berries and cashew butter, it's an amusing take on an otherwise standard menu item. Hours for Grits Fullerton are currently 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Booze is forthcoming, so begin with a French press and start ordering.

Grits Fullerton is located at 133 W Chapman Ave, #102, (714) 449-0939 www.gritsfullerton.com
