No. 67: Bacon Fried Rice at The Loft Hawaiian

Welcome to the Weekly's list of our 100 Favorite Dishes for 2011! Tune in every day until we get to número uno! Now, on to the latest entry.

Before folks began to praise the Lard, bacon was a staple for breakfast. Chewy or crisp, Canadian or candied, more versatile than its sausage sibling. This little piggy can stand its own in a BLT, or garnish an already hearty chef salad. While bacon is one of only four ingredients in today's dish, it makes all the difference.

Hawaiian food is comfort food, no doubt about it. The combination of meat, rice and sauce is synonymous with Aloha cuisine. Oh, and don't forget that scoop of mac salad! While spam musubi made an appearance earlier in the countdown, we revisit the islands for a more super-sized craving.

Portioned to feed a family of six (or one ravenous Weekly food blogger), it's pure gluttony indulgence. Nothing complex nor unusual about bacon fried rice. Your tummy gets filled with slivered scallions, soy, starchy white grains, and that bacony good stuff. You can have it for any meal, or with any meal.

For finally opening a locale south of Huntington Beach in Mitsua Marketplace, all we have to say is, “Mahalo!”. This old school flavor isn't leaving the mainland anytime soon.
