Wax On, Wax Off has been chasing snow and festivities around California during the holidays. That, combined with shaky wifi and limited computer access, has made things on the blog a little slow. But this week is shaping up to be a raging good time up here at Mammoth Mountain. With over seven inches of snow last night and still dumping, and morning temperatures as low as 18 degrees fahrenheit forecasted for tomorrow, snow conditions will continue to improve during Mammoth's most crowded week of the year.
]
The last few weeks at Mammoth have included everything from industry parties and events, like Quiksilver's open house and fashion preview at the Village, to competitive ski and snowboard events, like the Volcom Peanut Butter and Rail Jam.
Much of the mountain is closed today due to the stormy weather, but folks are having a great time at the parks and pipes, and getting a constant sprinkling of uncut snow even on the lower runs. Meanwhile, the town of Mammoth Lakes is crowded with boisterous tourists keeping warm and getting drunk and filling their bellies. You'll be lucky to get anything less than a couple of hours' wait at a restaurant.
New Years at Mammoth is always a big affair, with parties and dinner events at most of the bars and restaurants, and big, blown-out events at both the Eagle and Canyon Lodges. As of today, the event at Canyon is sold out, as usual. By far the most over-the-top, raging event in Mammoth, the party at Canyon is sponsored by three well known OC industry forces: Sabre, Blisss Mag and The Closet. The 21 and over party will feature the raucous party stylings of Posso the DJ, DJ Faust and DJ Mark Lewis. The accompanying festivities at Eagle
Lodge will include dancing, drink specials and DJ Slip Matt.
Happy New Year to all from Wax On, Wax Off. See you in 2010!
