Santiago Fire update: Still 65 percent contained, but cooler weather is making a difference for firefighters. They are “battling the clock to smother the stubborn flames before dangerous Santa Ana winds return this weekend,” reports the Reg. Full control is expected by Friday.
Tentative settlement in Haidl case: A few weeks back, Moxley updated us on the whereabouts of Gregory Scott Haidl, Keith James Spann and Kyle Joseph Nachreiner, convicted for the videotaped rape and molestation of an unconscious 16-year-old girl in 2002. Today, the Register reports that “Jane Doe” tentatively reached a settlement in her civil lawsuit. She originally sought $26 million, but her attorney says the details of the settlement are private – including the amount she will be receiving.
UCI Medical Center fires: The hospital has fired 13 nurses over the past three months, some of whom have over 20 years experience. UCI Medical Center won't say why.
