Roving Patrols to Catch Drivers Under the Influence of Eggnog

We already warned you about DUI checkpoints to be held in Anaheim, Costa Mesa and Westminster this weekend. If you saw that post and thought “Merry me, I don't live in central county so I can go crazy with the hard cider in my hatchback tonight“… we've got some coal-in-the-stocking news for you (What's your problem? We only have, like, ten days out of the year where it's okay to write like this).

Starting today, the Orange County Sheriff's Department, the California Highway Patrol and a number of local agencies will be cracking
down on drunk driving with roving patrols all over the county. As part of a statewide program that will bring more than 300 check-points and patrols to California this holiday season, various cop departments will be teaming up to arrest winos behind the wheel until Jan. 3, 2010.

The details, from the press release:

law enforcement agencies will staff officers at ten (10) checkpoints, a Multi-Agency DUI Task Force in the cities of Placentia, Buena Park, La Habra and Fullerton as well as dozens of local DUI Patrols in nearly every community in Orange county.  CHP will be staffing 80% of all available officers during the four day Christmas and New Year holiday weekends.

We even have a detailed, totally-not-written-by-a-publicist quote from Sheriff Sandra Hutchens: “We continue to see far too many people suffer debilitating injuries and loss of their loved ones as a result of impaired driving. This careless disregard for human life must stop… To help ensure that this happens, the 'Avoid the 38' partners are dedicated to arresting impaired drivers.  To help, we ask everyone; Report Drunk Drivers, Call 9-1-1!”

That's right, she capitalized the first letters of random words while speaking out loud! Jesus was born so such miracles could happen.
