National Ballet of Cuba

In 1948, legendary Cuban prima ballerina Alicia Alonso founded the company now known as Ballet Nacional de Cuba. Since then, the troupe (still directed by the now-90-year-old Alonso) has blossomed into one of the most celebrated in the world. During a rare one-month tour of the United States, Cuba’s premier dancers bring scenes from some of ballet’s most famous masterpieces to the Segertrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa, following engagements in Washington, D.C., and New York. Watch them perform parts of Swan Lake, Coppelia, The Sleeping Beauty and more. Following its Orange County performances, Ballet Nacional de Cuba continues on to the Music Center in downtown Los Angeles before heading home to Havana.

Wednesdays-Sundays. Starts: June 15. Continues through June 19, 2011
