So, this is my Andrew McMahon day. We met at the rehearsal space Jack's Mannequin uses in North Hollywood shortly before noon and had a lengthy chat about everything from Something Corporate reuniting for Bamboozle to McMahon's battle with Leukemia to buddy Tommy Lee to whether the Dana Hills High School graduate will be attending his 10-year reunion in a few months.
McMahon couldn't have been nicer, even when declining to answer a couple prickly questions. Interestingly, he seemed to genuinely remember when he and I met backstage in Florida in 2002 following this interview I did for my college paper. (Apologies in advance for initially describing Orange County as “somewhere between L.A. and San Diego” and misusing the word “bare.” At least I worked Chain Reaction into the story.)
McMahon dropped pretty big news about Something Corporate this afternoon, which I will be posting tomorrow along with a pic from the photo shoot we held before and after interview. Our ace photog John Gilhooley had a Jerry Lee Lewis homage in mind. So when McMahon sat down at the piano to have his picture taken he played nothing but the Killer. Very cool.

To warm up for their national tour that kicks off Feb. 5 in Seattle, McMahon booked a last-minute “secret show” tonight at the Viper Room. I'm currently down the street at BoHo on Sunset Boulevard and will be attending. McMahon told me about a sweet cover planned for tonight. “It's a surprise,” he hollered while getting into his Volkswagen GTI, “don't tell anyone.”
