Home Ec began as a shop within a shop, housed inside Silverlake's super-cute indie craft shop Reform School. With Jenny Ryan at the helm, it soon outgrew it's corner of the store – and what timing! A storefront became available just down the block, and the decision to move the venture to it's own space was made.
The new Home Ec will be just like the old Home Ec, but on a bit of a bigger scale – more elbow space for crafters, more classes for people to get crafty in, more awesome fabric and supplies to drool over… This could get dangerous for your pocketbook.
You can't go wrong with classes at Home Ec. Jenny teaches lots of the workshops, and does so with a genuine friendliness and fun vibe that'll help shoo away any of your misgivings about stabbing that piece of wool with a tiny harpoon until it looks like a woodland critter. (See Needlefelting 101). Other upcoming classes include Sewing 101, Knit a Cactus, Intro to Quilting and more. Be sure to get on the mailing list, as guest teachers have included folks like Andre from season 3 of Project Runway!
