Movie Mondays: Billy Elliot

Billy Elliot remains one of the few films that seamlessly teeters between heart warming and heart wrenching, leaving you wondering whether you should laugh or reach for the tissues. The movie follows young Billy Elliot as he struggles to find himself amidst his family’s set way of life in Northern England. Elliot trades his boxing gloves for a pair of ballet slippers, despite his father and brother’s disapproval, hurtling him onto a path filled with obstacles and rejection. As he gains confidence as a dancer, Elliot conquers his fears and reveals his potential to be a star. The film is shown outdoors as part of the Segerstrom Center’s Movie Mondays; guests are encouraged to bring beach chairs and snacks. In partnership with the Newport Beach Film Festival, a series of short, animated films starts the night off.
