Morrissey's 51st Unhappy Birthday Celebration

Here's something worth getting sad about: Morrissey is turning 51. But the alt-rock icon can still get it done, as evidenced by his rousing performance last December at the Fox Theater in Pomona. He has no current further touring plans, but luckily we've got the next best thing: tribute act Sweet and Tender Hooligans, headed by Jose Maldonado, who possesses eerily similar vocals to the Moz himself. They're performing a special “Unhappy Birthday” (that's the name of a Smiths song, you see) on May 23—actually the day after Morrissey's birthday, and the third of three Southern California shows this weekend celebrating the auspicious date. The Curse—we'll give you seventeen seconds to guess what British band they're a tribute to—open the show.
