Personally, I'm not much for musicals—unless it's Dreamgirls or The King and I—so I really can't really tell you one way or the other if Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is any good. Sure, sure, I saw an outdoor production of it once (I went for the wine) and, yes, I suppose if I think hard enough, I can name two people who have played the lead (David Cassidy and Donny Osmond—or was that Jesus Christ Superstar? Oops.) Oh, and fine: for whatever reason, I also know it's an Andrew Lloyd Webber joint—but that guy practically has a monopoly on musicals, so I naturally just assume that, anyway.
All this does not change the fact I can tell you absolutely nothing of substance about Joseph. In fact, the only thing I do know is that former American Idol starlet Amy Adams stars in it. Wait, Amy who? Idol what? Surely you remember her: the girl with Manic Panic-bottled, shockingly bright, neon-pink hair? Or maybe it was magenta? Whatever. There haven't been that many people on American Idol with pink—or magenta—hair, so just Google her. There. Remember? Goooooood.
Right, so: she once was a finalist—top 10, not three—on that quaint little television show, and then she went on some tour that blew up like gangbusters (actually, I'm not sure about this—I just really wanted to use that idiom), and now she's making her theatrical debut in the touring production of this, the musical adaptation of that rollicking old wives' tale about Joseph (“Joseph who?” Read the Bible, heathen) and his awesome coat, which has a lot of colors. One of them possibly being pink. Or magenta.
No, okay, fine, seriously: Amy Adams can really sing (surely! She was Simon- and Paula- and Randy-approved!) and musicals are, well, really great for rambling on at length when you don't know what else to say.
