Case in point: Jose Antonio Hernandez.

The 44-year-old Santa Ana resident was arrested today “for annoying a child on a bus as she was going home from school,” according to an Orange County Sheriffs Department press release.

A 13 year old girl complained that a man grabbed her around the waist aboard an Orange County Transportation Authority bus. Her report was filed with Santa Ana School Police. School police conducted an initial investigation and subsequently turned over the investigation to the Orange County Sheriff's Department, which provides Police Services for OCTA.

Surveillance of the area where the incident occurred at 1st Street and Grand Avenue in Santa Ana was conducted by Deputies from the Sheriff's Transportation Police Services on May 4, the same day they received the report from Santa Ana School Police. The surveillance led to a man who fit the description given by the victim and the suspect was then taken into custody. Subsequent interviews brought more reports of the suspect having inappropriately touched young boys and girls. The inter-agency cooperation of these police agencies directly led to the apprehension of this suspect.

Police say there may be other boys and girls who have been, uh, “annoyed” by Hernandez. They ask anyone who knows of an incident that fits the bill to call 1-866-TIP-OCSD (1-866-847-6273).
