Lykke Li

Lykke Li is a maverick. For too long now, her native Sweden has been stereotypically associated with fey indie-pop (Peter Bjorn & John) and scary electro (The Knife, Sally Shapiro) but 25-year-old Lykke seeks to change the face of Swedish music with new album Wounded Rhymes. With a genre-bend production template that borrows liberally from ’60s R&B, industrial pop, and American blues-rock, Wounded Rhymes is fearless in its experimentation and sonic curiosity. Like Kate Nash or Lily Allen, Lykke doesn’t take shit; her low, husky voice has a malevolent edge—but love songs like “I Follow Rivers” are full of vulnerability.
