LP (Lisa Parker), Vocalist/Bassist of Foxy

Photo by Jeanne Rice> “I love the late-'70s/early-'80s punk era, bands like the Clash, the Ramones, the Damned, the Dead Boys and X. If I had to pick one, I guess it'd be the Clash. For a good dose, check out The Story of the Clash Vol. I N II.

> “Tom Waits is my all-time favorite blues singer. I love that guy. He gets me right where I want him to, especially on those rainy, overcast, leather-weather days. Driving around or kickin' back, drinking a good cup of coffee, he takes me where I wanna go. If you know what I'm talking about, pick up The Heart of Saturday Night.

> “Good country like Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, Hank Williams Sr. and even a little David Allan Coe—the good ol' boys and girls. If you think you've got any of this in you, you can't go wrong with any of their greatest-hits CDs. My absolute No. 1 would be the Man in Black. I met him once at the Galaxy, and he was the most down-to-earth, coolest guy ever. Johnny Cash rocks—his old stuff, his new stuff, whatever. Most people have heard at least some of his older stuff, so check out newer releases like Unchained—it comes with a really cool biography.”

> “Blondie. I love Deborah Harry. I really admire what she did and the role she played for women in music. I listen to all her old stuff, and now that they've regrouped, I'm looking forward to seeing what they do next. Again, you can't go wrong with their Greatest Hits.

> “My favorite new punk band would be U.S. Bombs. These guys are a riot, fun as shit. Pure-bred Orange County old school, punk as fuck. It's great to see guys like this putting out records —good records—and traveling the world. It restores my faith. If you missed how it was or just miss how it was, go check out these guys.”

> “As for live shows, the Cadillac Tramps. I've seen these guys more than any other band. Their energy level is insane. They're a big part of what inspired me to play music. When they broke up a few years back, I was pretty bummed, but now they're back, packing clubs like they never left. Strong and entertaining as ever. Check out their self-titled album, and don't miss seeing these guys live.”

> “The Gaunabatz, a legendary psychobilly band from the UK, a great live act. I've seen them both here and in Europe. My favorite record is Powderkeg. A few of the guys—including the singer, Pip Hancox, and bassist Jonny Bowler—have relocated to the U.S. and have recently formed a new band called Bonneville 7 in San Diego. For a little European history, pick up a Batz CD, or hit a Bonneville 7 gig.”
