Maybe you read this week's print story on Lou Reed and realized he's probably a little, uh, moody. But the legend himself is coming to Fingerprints Record Store in Long Beach tomorrow, right before he goes off to converse with Bob Ezrin at The Carpenter Center. (He's also in town for a Metal Machine Music art
opening at University Art Museum.) He'll be available to sign a few albums and
books, but he'll be at Fingerprints for a very short time, so call now if you want in!
From Fingerprints' Facebook page:
time constraints, there will be very limited space for this event, so do
not linger about by the phone. Call us now if you would like to attend.
Lou is very excited about a couple of his recent projects; Lulu, his
new double album set recorded with the mighty Metallica, and based on
the plays Earth Spirit and Pandora's Box, by German Expressionist writer
Frank Wedekind. The plays (and the album) tell the story of an abused
young dancer, her life and her relationships. Written in the early
1900s, the “Lulu Plays” have been the inspiration for film and stage
productions, as well as an opera and other artistic endeavors.
The Raven is an illustrated book reimagining Edgar Allen Poe's classic
poem The Raven. It finds Lou working with Italian illustrator Lorenzo
Mattotti, adding a new visual layer to Lou's 2003 album The Raven, and
earlier song-cycle POEtry, recorded with Robert Wilson.
are opening the guest list for this event with purchase of either Lulu
(CD or LP) or The Raven. If space and time allow, when we are closer to
the event, we will open the guest list, first come first served. Lou
will be signing one item per person, (you are welcome to have him sign
Lulu or The Raven, or one of the Lou Reed or Velvet Underground items
from your collection.)
