Let's finish our trio of luxe lonchera updates with this: Michelle told you two weeks ago about the Lobsta Truck coming to Orange County. Starting today, they'll be dropping anchor in our local waters. Turn the page for the locations!
I've never had the chance to eat at Lobsta Truck, mainly because they've been geographically inconvenient. They seem to troll the streets of Pasadena and Venice mainly, so they may as well be in Maine considering the brief hours they're open.
The photo at left shows the classically minimal (and huge) lobster roll from the legendary Red's Eats in Wiscasset, Maine. The classic presentation is a pile of chilled, steamed lobster meat in a buttered-and-toasted split-top New England roll, and nothing more. At Red's, you can ask for drawn butter, or mayo, and shake a little celery salt on top.
Will Lobsta Truck live up to the high bar set by the lobster shacks of New England? They tout the rolls flown in from New England. Check. Can they grill it with butter correctly? My guess is yes. They give you the same option of drawn butter or mayo. Check. Will they prep the lobsters correctly? How generous is the $12 portion? We'll see, neighbors.
