Lil Wayne

There’s no doubt at this point that Lil Wayne is by far the most successful of the “Lil” rappers who populated the early part of last decade. Oddly, he’s also the only one who hasn’t shied away from using “Lil,” though the artists currently known only as Romeo and Bow Wow have never experienced anything as hardening as say, an eight-month stint at Rikers. Incarceration didn’t stop Weezy from his usual productive pace, putting out last fall’s I Am Not a Human Being, his eighth album, while still serving a sentence for attempted criminal possession of a weapon. Just a few months after his release, he announced plans for The Carter IV—the third follow-up to his 2004 breakout record—scheduled for release next month.
