Juan Way

It was only a short time ago that DFA Records seemed poised to dominate the iPods of the Vice-reading hipsterati. With unbelievably hyped singles by the Rapture and LCD Soundsystem blowing up the charts and dominating the independent music press, DFA’s focus on what was termed “dance punk” put it square in the spotlight. Well, the Rapture hasn’t quite been able to recapture the excitement that greeted their first single, and while the DFA roster continues to produce quality music, the “dance punk” craze has faded somewhat in the past few years. Lucky, then, for the label’s the Juan MacLean, who continue to adapt their sound to avoid being trapped in any one trend. While still playing electronic music, the Juan MacLean dabble in many of the offshoots of the genre, including house, kraut, Euro-disco . . . you name it. No matter what they’re playing, they can get a crowd moving, so this Detroit Bar show should be a burner.
