Johnny Guy Leyva, A Registered Sex Offender, Arrested For Filming Woman At Mission Viejo Tanning Salon

About 20 minutes into a nude tanning session, a 25-year-old woman noticed a pair of hands holding a camera atop an adjacent 8-foot, partition wall.

The woman immediately got dressed, left the room and told an employee at Darque Tan in Mission Viejo. The victim then waited until 33-year-old Johnny Guy Leyva, a registered sex offender, came out of the adjacent room, and she confronted him, says Jim Amormino, a spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff's Department.
“He actually showed her the video and she was on it. She demanded he delete it. He may have. The next day she called us,” Amormino says.

Employees told law enforcement that Leyva was a regular customer at the salon, Amormino says. “We got his name and ran him through the database and found out he was a registered sex offender.” Leyva's priors include possession and distribution of child pornography and failing to register as a sex offender, Amormino says.

Deputies arrested Leyva at his mother's house in Mission Viejo last night, Amormino says, adding that he's currently in custody without bond. He's expected to appear in court tomorrow, according to the county's arrest records.
Amormino says cases of surreptitious photography are “sporadic to rare” in Orange County, but added that the department worries that this wasn't Leyva's first time.
“Our theory is, well our fear, since he is a regular at the salon, that there are additional victims. He's a sexual predator.”
