Jónsi

For the better part of the past decade, Sigur Rós was the go-to band if you wanted to sound cultured when somebody asked you what music you liked. They released an album titled after parentheses—( )—and featured a variation of the band’s native Icelandic called “Hopelandic,” which was a slew of nonsense words. That’s not to say that there aren’t plenty of people who genuinely enjoy their esoteric take on rock, the same who were disappointed to hear they went on “indefinite hiatus” this year. Not to fear—lead singer Jónsi is filling the void by going out on his own, similarly ambient and highlighted by his solo debut Go. Having played at Coachella earlier this year, Jónsi is now visiting his highbrow fans across the country, with Asia not far behind.
