Irvine's House of Shabu Shabu Closed (Temporarily?)

Strange things are afoot at the House of Shabu Shabu. The restaurant is cordoned off by green fencing, and the City of Irvine's Building & Safety Division has posted a Stop-Work Notice that reads, “No work permitted until permits obtained. No gas turn-on without city approval.”

The city's notice is dated July 19. The restaurant's glass storefront is partially demolished and covered over with black plastic sheeting.

A message dated July 9 on the restaurant's answering machine says a car crashed into the restaurant, and “we will be closed for at least a week or so and hope to reopen as soon as possible.”

At this point, those are the facts of the matter. We'll update as we find out more.
