Into the Woods

Take all your favorite fairy tale characters—Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Rapunzel—corrupt them slightly, and what do you get? The unconventional cast of James Lapine’s Into the Woods. Add music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, and this “fractured fairy tale” has you rethinking those childhood classics. Once innocent characters are now deceitful, greedy, lustful—but don’t worry, there’s still a moral to this story. The award-winning musical tells a tale of community responsibility, cautions that there are consequences to every action, and warns us to be careful about what we pass on to our children. Into the Woods shakes up tradition, providing a new (and welcomed) take on the Brothers Grimm.

Fridays, Saturdays. Starts: June 30. Continues through July 28, 2012
